Pain around lungs
I am new to your boards (amazing what we can find on the internet when we look hard enough!) and hoping someone else may be able to help.
I am having trouble breathing. I can only take short breaths so I don't expand my rib cages or the pain I get from the front to the back of me is too much.
I get these pains mostly when I am sitting, even more when laying down but less when I am walking. Wish I could stand up all day, but I also have a curved spine which means I have to rest quite alot. I know both my problems are unrelated and cannot get to a doctor til next Wednesday.
My neighbour believes I may have plurisy? I do not know anyone that has had this and would like to know if anyone here can shed some light. Should I demand an appointment at the doctors, go to the hospital, or just wait til Wednesday? Is it serious? I have had these symptoms for about a month, but just recently it began to hurt more.
Any help appreciated.

- hey Dawn, Welcome to the boards!
I do not believe you have what i had however if the pain is in your lungs it could be a less % of what i had which was Pnuemo Thorax. This is a collapse of the lung well i had 60% collapse of the left lung and sypmtoms include pain when inhaling severe pain when moving around and less pain when lying so i am hoping as your sypmtoms are the opposite this is not it. So mention it to your Dr on Wednesday just so he can rule it out. Sorry i do not know anything about a curved spine but i am sure someone here does and will respond soon. Hope this helps.

- Thanks for your reply.
I have been to the doctor today, (they had a cancellation) and he is sending me for a chest xray tomorrow. I have to wait for another two weeks before i find out what is wrong. He is puzzled because the syptoms i have dont match with things he was thinking could be wrong. I mentioned plurisy and he didn't think that was it either. When I actually saw him today I felt better than I had for days. Though after being in the rain and cold all day has changed that! That could be because i sat down all weekend with hotwater bottles where the pain was worse. And wrapped myself up in a duvet!!.
I think what my mum may have is what you had. She has been in hospital for nearly a week. She has seriuos infection, after having pneumonia, on her lungs so they cannot do some of the tests until that has cleared. But a collapsed lung has been mentioned by doctors. As well as a form of cancer.
What did doctors do to you to help your collapsed lung, if anything? Are you still suffering with it now?

- Hi, Sorry to hear about your problem, hope you feel better real soon.
With my condition they actually performed surgery which intailed three incisions in my back. They removed 1/4 of my left lung due to blebs which are little blisters that burst and release air and causes my lung to collapse. They then inserted a tube which suctions the air that causes the problem - a very painful procedure, however i am now feeling much better, i am back on my feet and my breathing is fine.
I hope your Mom feels better soon and you also.
If you have any more question please let me know.
